Abstract

The aim of this article is to present Christian–Jewish relations in the Polish lands, particularly in Eastern Galicia in the eighteenth century, from a Jewish perspective as described by Dov Ber of Bolechów. The primary source for this study is the Hebrew manuscript Divre Binah (“Words of Understanding”). In light of Dov Ber’s account of mutual Christian–Jewish relations, can we speak of religious tolerance, or rather of its absence?
