Image of God as a Force Majeure in supporting therapy for eating disorders. Sociological study

Abstract

The purpose of this text is to show the image of God – The Greater Power discovered as part of the therapy for eating disorders. It was created based on empirical material obtained as part of a case study of a person experiencing an eating disorder who undertook therapy within the Food Anonymous group.  Eating disorders could be in the form of anorexia, addiction to diet and bulimia. As part of the group therapy, the person goes through the stages of 12 steps of Food Anonymous addicts, which assume the recognition of his helplessness in the face of eating disorders. Discovery of a Greater Power can restore health and devotion to God - building a relationship with God through prayer, however he is conceived. The case study was conducted based on a series of interviews with a young woman declaring herself as a Catholic although distant from the institutions of the Catholic Church.  A believer, fulfilling the corresponding religious practices, having a high rate of religious tolerance, for which God is a relational being - an image of an ideal, loving in unconditional way of the Father.
