The article concerns Zofia Noiret (1862-1922), a completely forgotten actress of the Warsaw Government Theaters, active from 1885 to 1892, often compared to Helena Modrzejewska in terms of talent, predispositions to tragic roles and appearance. This is a case study discussing the dissonance between the artist’s talents and the light repertoire of a bourgeois theater fond of comedies.
Noiret’s biography was reconstructed, her professional career traced, the stage plays in which she appeared were listed. Press reviews of theater critics were quoted. A reflection was made on the situation of that artist in the acting community. Guided by the opinions of contemporary opinion makers, an attempt was made to assess her achievements and to reflect on the reasons for her resignation from professional activity.
