Abstract

The article is an analysis of the current educational offer of Polish art schools and university art programs – due to the size – limited to public education. Artistic education is primarily about continuous practice in order to develop one’s own means of artistic expression, but also familiarising, experimentation and critical approach to used techniques and technologies. On the other hand, it requires the continuation of good and traditional practice, but also opening up to new technologies and marketing. Artistic education not only is a contact with qualified artistic staff – often outstanding personalities in Polish culture – but also the use of a well-organized didactic base. It also cannot omit theoretical knowledge, which is important for shaping the intellect and artistic personality. Subjects in the field of art history, art theory, aesthetics and philosophy of art, art criticism, art psychology, psychophysiology of vision, and even sociology – help students understand the context in which art is created and the functions it fulfills.
