Abstract

The aim of this research was to characterize the strategies of coping with stress in subjects with visual impairment in the context of the structure as well as sociodemographic and medical determinants. The exploration covered 100 blind and 100 visually impaired respondents. Thanks to the use of Charles S. Carver’s Mini Inventory – COPE, we found that subjects with visual impairment prefer strategies of active coping and planning, followed by acceptance, seeking emotional and instrumental support, and positive re-evaluation. Three patterns of coping with difficult situations by the blind and visually impaired respondents were distinguished. Socio-demographic and medical factors are to a different extent related to their coping strategies.
