Abstract

The author analyzes the offices of St. Catherine of Alexandria. In some offices there is a responsory ”Ex eius tumba.” This is a chant that also exists in all offices of St. Nicholas. The author indicates that the reason for this convergence is the phenomenon of the leaking of fragranced healing oil from the relics of St. Catherine and St. Nicholas. He ponders if both offices could have been created in the monastery of the Holy the Trinity in Rouen in the mid-eleventh century and whether the Benedictines: Isembert and Ainard might be their authors.
