Peer Review Process

Editorial Board of the Academic Journal of Sociology (UCS) developed the specific manuscript review procedure based on the highest standards of verification of substantive content and epistemic novelty of manuscripts. Review procedure applies to original research manuscripts, other types of manuscripts (reports, research announcement, reviews, commemorations) will be reviewed directly by the Editorial Board.

1. Two independent reviewers are invited to evaluate each submitted research manuscript. Editorial board of the UCS journal makes a selection. Author is not aware of reviewers’ identities, similarly reviewers do not know author’s identity. Reviewers are not aware of each other’s identity as well.

2. Reviewers enter their feedback and opinions in the dedicated review form that is sent to the manuscript author after adequate anonymization. Review includes general and specific parts that consist of specific sections:

- problem description in a manuscript and identification of its novelty;

- feedback on content structure, language and conclusions in a manuscript;

- recommendations for the author.

In the final evaluation a reviewer selects one of three options of manuscript evaluation:

- no revision;

- revise with no additional review;

- revise and resubmit for additional review;

- rejection with justification of the negative evaluation.

3. Editorial board makes a decision on reviewed manuscripts publication taking into consideration of at least two reviewers. If at least one of the reviewers recommends additional review, third reviewer is selected that will provide final and decisive manuscript evaluation. Editorial board of the UCS journal requires that reviewers provide comprehensive argument on negative evaluation and publication rejection.

4. Manuscript author is required to revise and comply with the feedback in the review. Editorial board takes into consideration author’s arguments as well and makes a decision on publication or rejection.

5. List of all the current year reviewers is published in every second volume of this year.
