The “Artifex Novus” journal was established in 2016 on the initiative of employees of the Institute of Art History of UKSW. It is issued as an annual. The first issue of the journal was published in 2017. From the beginning, the editorial work is managed by Assoc. Prof. Katarzyna Chrudzimska-Uhera, and individual issues have editors in charge.

The aims of “Artifex Novus” are to foster research in the field of historical and contemporary art, encourage the exchange of scholarly findings within national and international academic communities, and disseminate the results of research undertaken by the staff of the Institute of Art History at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw.
“Artifex Novus” is a nationwide scholarly journal that addresses a wide range of research topics, with a particular focus on historical and contemporary Polish art, encompassing both the present-day territory of Poland and the former lands of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.
The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, conference reports, and other contributions related to the activities of the Institute.
“Artifex Novus” publishes articles in Polish or English.
“Artifex Novus” is aimed primarily at art historians and researchers in the humanities, as well as the exact and technical sciences, whose scholarly interests encompass broadly understood art, including painting, sculpture, architecture, artistic craftsmanship, printmaking, drawing, iconography, museology, the art market, conservation, and the teaching of art history.
Articles published in “Artifex Novus” are available both in open access on the UKSW Journals Platform (Open Access) and in print.
In order to maintain the high academic standards of the journal, all submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process. (more)

The publishing policy of “Artifex Novus” is based on the principles of Open Access.
The authors of articles published in “Artifex Novus” retain their copyrights under the terms of the Creative Commons CC BY-ND 4.0 International license.
“Artifex Novus” does not charge authors any fees for the submission, processing, review, or publication of manuscripts. No Article Processing Charges (APCs), editorial fees, membership fees, subscription fees, or other publication-related charges apply. Authors do not receive financial remuneration for their published contributions.
The journal does not publish commercial advertisements. For issues produced with the financial support of external sponsors, appropriate acknowledgements and sponsor logos are displayed in the journal. In the print edition, advertising material related to the sponsor may also be included.
Electronic files of articles published in “Artifex Novus” are preserved through the PKP Preservation Network (PN), a long-term digital preservation service based in Canada. They are also archived by the National Library of Poland in Warsaw and the Jagiellonian Digital Library.
Under the deposit policy of “Artifex Novus”, authors may, without restriction, deposit the submitted, accepted, and published versions of their articles in institutional or other repositories of their choice.
