This article presents the contents of Alexander Thomas’s book The Politics and Ethics of Transhumanism (2024), along with the polemics, explanation of key terms and sources of ideas used by Thomas in his criticism of the postulates of transhumanism (TH). He argues that TH’s promises and idolized technologies are linked to the ideology of capitalism, especially the pursuit of a techno-utopia and indefinite development. Thomas emphasizes the growing social stratification, which stands in contrast to the exclusively positive image of technology drawn by TH. Tech development presents many challenges that neither market mechanisms nor corporations are able to address. One such challenge is the question of “what does it mean to be human,” especially in the face of the increasing influence of technology on our lives.
