Abstract

Not much work has been published on the status of dental technicians who earned their qualifications in the Russian zone of partitioned Poland and continued to practise in the profession following the restoration of Poland’s independence and reunification in 1918, although the issue aroused a good deal of controversy at the time. This article presents the discussion that went on in the press when the legislation concerning the professional activities of dental technicians was being drafed. It uses source materials from the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs now held in the Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw relating to dental technicians from the former Russian partition. The article refers to other legislative acts, including the Russian Industrial Act of 1893 and the Regulation on Dental Practice issued by the President of the Republic of Poland in 1927.
