Abstract

In the article, the author discusses the most important motifs appearing in the activities of Paweł Jarodzki, a Polish painter, graphic artist, cartoonist and author of video art, who died in autumn 2021. Before 1989, his work was associated primarily with irony, satire, pastiche, i.e. the means of artistic ex- pression used by the artist to criticize the inefficient economic system and the grotesque, though equipped with military service, power apparatus behind it. Jarodzki perversely showed the absurdities of the period of shortages, dullness and stagnation of the end of the People’s Republic of Poland. After the political transformation, he continued to be interested in the issues of materiality, production and distribution of goods, products and their consumption. These threads remained strongly present in his art. He was not only an original artist, but also a social activist. The text published is devoted not only to the attitude of contestation and resistance to the system, both in terms of art and political involvement, but also to the memory of Paweł Jarodzki.
