The salesian society in the face of educational challenges in the years 1918-1939

Abstract

After regaining independence in 1918 Poland commenced the long reconstruction process of state structures. The legacy of three seizures very much hindered this process. The Salesian Company, with the society as a whole, joined into creating missing school and protective structures. To 1918 Salesians could only to carry one's charisma out only in the Austrian annexed territory. One of the first activities of the Company after 1918 was opening secondary modern schools. It was being made at the request of authorities and the Polish society. Majority of schools of this type came into existence in the twentieth years. Some of them contended with many problems, like appropriately prepared staffs or financial problems. In spite of many problems they were pleased with rather a good opinion in the Polish society, facilitating for substantial amount of Polish young people getting the secondary education.
