Abstract

After children received their First Holy Communion, they come into the time to deepen
this experience of faith. Mystagogical catechesis, that is, introducing one to experience
the mystery of salvation, is part of further preparation for receiving the last sacrament
of Christian initiation, which is the sacrament of confirmation. Unlike at school, such
catechesis – related to formation in the ecclesial community – currently adopts a new
paradigm, defining a model of accompaniment in the development of faith. This vision is
presented in the latest document issued by Polish bishops, entitled “New paths and directions
of youth formation implemented in Poland in relation to traditional pastoral care”.
In the article, the author looks for pastoral, pedagogical and anthropological reasons for
working with a teenager who is entering adolescence and needs strengthening in his or
her journey of maturing faith.
