Establishing perfect models through the Son born of God the Father is the original act of God the Creator. God accomplished all of creation in one act. Creation came into existence as simple and perfect according to God’s will. Eriugena believes that the creation of perfect patterns has been described in the Scriptures as a process. This allegorical account is the source of information about creation. For Eriugena, all Scripture is a reliable source of information, because the author of the Scriptures is God who always tells the truth. The Creator wants a man who made a wrong choice and lost his perfection to be able to return to perfection, so he opens the Book of Nature, which is the created universe, and the Book of Scripture, which is the Holy Bible, to man. The Bible, with its symbols, teachings and descriptions, was given to modern mankind so that the rational nature of man could enable him to return to God and the state of perfection. The rational investigation of creation and the analysis of the Scriptures should bring man closer to God. Exegetical clarification is an important aspect of the interpretation of Scripture. To this end, Eriugena formulates conditions that are necessary for or support the correct interpretations. Such conditions concern the inconsistency between the books, the role of the human intellect, and the importance of human authority. The author of this article examines the relevance of Eriugena’s requirements and interprets them in the context of several developments in modern science.
