Abstract

The author analyzes the origins and evolution of naturalistic pedagogy focused on education in nature, especially in the forest from Jan Jakub Rousseau to contemporary forest educators in Europe and the USA. He points to two forms of organization of the education and upbringing process in the forest, about the forest and for the forest, namely the institutional approach in the form of creating kindergartens and forest schools and extracurricular, environmental education, which each age group can use in their free time. Summing up, it formulates a thesis on the inclusion of scientific research and educational practices in the forest into the humanities and social sciences without the need to select a separate scientific discipline.
