Abstract

The article discusses the topic of the theological foundations of contemporary catechesis related to the Eucharist. The basis for the considerations is the definition of the Eucharist found in point 11 of the dogmatic constitution on the Church Lumen Gentium, promulgated by the Second Vatican Council. Therefore, the concept of the Eucharist as a sacrifice is outlined, as well as the triple understanding of priesthood (of Christ, common and ministerial), inextricably linked to the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice. The second part of the article develops the council's definition of the Eucharist as "the fount and apex of the whole Christian life", pointing, on the one hand, to the central place of this sacrament in the lives of believers, and, on the other hand, showing it as a model of Christian life and piety.
