About

Scope and reach of the magazine

"Studia Katechetyczne" is a yearbook in which catechetical scholars and doctoral students can share their scholarly achievements. It also serves to deepen systematic knowledge of various areas of catechetics, according to the topic addressed at the annual academic session of the Association of Polish Catechists, held in the year preceding the publication of a given volume. The primary mission of "Studia Katechetyczne" is to foster reflection on catechesis, with the participation of recognized catechetical authorities from Polish and international research centers. The journal also serves as a platform for the exchange of ideas and discussion on key catechetical issues and the popularization of research conducted by young scholars in the field of catechetics. The journal's primary goals are:
1. To present original scholarly approaches to topics within various areas of catechesis.
2. To present current catechetical problems and issues in light of the Church's teaching.
3. To disseminate the results of scientific research on catechesis and reflections aimed at improving catechetical practice.
4. To exchange ideas and experiences on Polish catechesis and to present similar trends internationally.
5. To maintain ongoing contact with representatives of catechesis from Polish and foreign research centers. "Catechetical Studies" is primarily addressed to those engaged in scholarly reflection on catechesis – members of the Association of Polish Catechists, academics, and students and doctoral candidates in catechetics. The content of "Catechetical Studies" focuses on catechetical issues – both related to catechetical theory and practice. It can be valuable reading for representatives of diocesan catechetical departments, teachers of religion, and all those professionally involved in the catechetical ministry in various settings.

History of the magazine

The first volume of "Studia Katechetyczne" was published in 1979 at the initiative of Rev. Prof. Jan Charytański, as the beginning of a series of publications of research in the field of catechetics, and at the same time as a form of service to Polish catechists and catechists. As the editor of the magazine noted at the time, "by presenting the first volume of "Studia Katechetyczne" to readers, we wish to, in a sense, complement the form of service of our Department, which until now has offered ready-made catechetical models in textbooks for catechists. For the introduction of new forms and more theoretical reflection should develop in parallel. We desire to meet with Polish catechists and catechists on these two levels." (J. Charytański, Introduction, "Studia Katechetyczne" 1 (1979), p. 10)". Six volumes of "Studia Katechetyczne" were published in this format, the last of which was published in 1987.
The journal was revived in 2010, at the initiative of UKSW catechists, giving the periodical a new format. As one of the editors, Fr. Piotr Tomasik, explained, "The return to publishing 'Studia Katechetyczne' is associated with a change in the journal's format. The editors first want 'Studia' to become an annual in which staff and doctoral students of catechetics could share their achievements. Not only UKSW staff, but also recognized catechetical authorities from other centers. Furthermore, the intention, which remains to be seen, is to publish a thematic issue annually, which could serve to deepen systematic knowledge of the various areas of catechetics currently represented by the four departments of the Section." (P. Tomasik, Introduction, "Studia Katechetyczne" 7 (2010), p. 15). In the following years, the editorial office established close cooperation with the Association of Polish Catechists, defining the conditions of this cooperation in publishing the magazine in an appropriate agreement.
