Abstract

The article presents an analysis of Adrian Panek’s film Werewolf (Wilkołak, 2018) by examining it through a genological (genre-related) lens. The film constitutes a deliberate fusion of two seemingly incompatible genres: Holocaust cinema and horror. By blending the trauma of Holocaust experiences with the visual and narrative tropes of horror subgenres and Grimm-like fairy tales, the film offers a novel approach to representation of the Holocaust, particularly within Polish cinema. The article argues that Panek’s film challenges not only traditional ways of depicting the Holocaust but also reconfigures the way it functions in cultural memory.
