The text shows some aspects of multiculturalism and identity in modern times. Times understood as a great civilizational crisis, with its main processes: important technological advances, globalization, secularization and expansion of mass culture. It involves all the dimensions of the social order crisis, including the economic. Only in these terms we can understand the various phenomena of modern times, unclear, when they are taken in isolation from each other. In this context dilemma of multiculturalism is shown, as a major opportunity, but also a major threat to the identity of the today’s man. The problem of collective identity and its contemporary crisis is also considered here. These issues are analyzed from the perspective of human subjectivity and its psychological, social, cultural aspects, as well as the collective subjectivity. The text also includes an attempt to reinterpret the concept of multiculturalism and identity from the perspective of the theory of subjectivity and the philosophy of dialogue.
