History

"Uniwersyteckie Czasopismo Socjologiczne/Academic Journal of Sociology" (hereinafter: UCS) was founded in 2006 by young sociologists and political scientists conducting their research at the then Faculty of Historical and Social Sciences of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw. The initiators of the periodical's creation were also sociologists from the academic community of Poznań and Toruń. The first editor-in-chief was Paweł Ruszkowski, and the first editorial board included, among others, Władysław Majkowski, Hanna Podedworna and Andrzej Wójtowicz. Marcin Zarzecki, Tomasz M. Korczyński and Paweł Matuszewski provided invaluable support and involvement in the editorial work on the first issues. The first issue was published online in 2007. Initially, UCS was published as an annual, then a quarterly (2015-2017), and since 2018 as a semi-annual. The position of editor-in-chief was held by: the aforementioned Paweł Ruszkowski (2007-2013), then Sławomir H. Zaręba (2014-2019), Tomasz M. Korczyński (2020-2024) and Kinga Lendzion (2024-present).

Scope and reach

Currently, UCS is a semi-annual published by the UKSW Scientific Publishing House. The editorial team consists of employees of the UKSW Institute of Sociological Sciences and the Academy of Applied Sciences WSGE in Józefów. The periodical publishes important texts on theoretical, theoretical and empirical issues (original scientific articles), as well as those focusing on research issues (reports and reports). In addition, reviews and a special section "Attempts and debuts" are published, intended for doctoral students and novice authors. The journal has been published continuously since 2007. Initially, it operated exclusively in electronic form (annual), while since 2014, electronic and traditional paper versions have been published simultaneously (initially in quarterly format, and currently semi-annual). The editorial board ensures the distribution of author's copies. Electronic versions are available on the journal's website. Both forms are free of charge. In addition, paid versions are available for commercial sale (traditional - paper). The journal's readers are primarily sociological circles, but also political scientists, educators and philosophers. UCS - due to its long-standing presence on the publishing market - is a recognizable periodical among social researchers.

Purpose

UCS is a place for the exchange of ideas and discussions on contemporary social thought, which is referred to the results of emerging research. The Editorial Board makes every effort to ensure that the published texts contain elements of novelty and implement the adopted goals of scientific development in the field of sociology and interdisciplinary areas.

Subject matter

Classical and contemporary sociological theories, subject-specific sociologies (e.g. sociology of religion, sociology of culture, interpretative sociology, etc.), cultural anthropology, methodology of social research, issues of social structures and changes, contemporary migration movements, social psychology and other original approaches to contemporary sociological issues.

Polish and English.

Author profile

Researchers-sociologists proposing original approaches to scientific problems in their texts. The journal is also open to representatives of other disciplines, as well as authors from outside the academic world, the basic criterion is the quality of submitted texts and the reliability of the process of their creation.
