Abstract

Summary

Stalking is a relatively new offence in the Polish Criminal Code. However, it has become one of the most common offences against personal freedom. Tis study presents the results of a research project on this phenomenon conducted in the Białystok District Court, on the basis of court records for cases which led to a final verdict in the 2011-2016 period. I examined a total of 60 cases heard on the grounds of Article 190a, using a questionnaire consisting of 49 questions grouped in the following categories: general information and classification of the offence, characteristics of its perpetrator, characteristics of the victim, description of the offence, and the course of the pre-trial and judicial proceedings.
